British Sign Language

Bristish Sign Language (BSL) is the first or preferred language of around 125,000 deaf people in the United Kingdom and an estimated 20,000 children. BSL is a true language (just like any spoken language) but one that makes use of hand signs, fingerspelling, body language and facial expressions.

BSL is a wonderfully expressive language that can unlock doors for many deaf children. Research demonstrates that effective use of BSL can support your child’s development, confidence and education (as well as improving your child’s fluency in other languages). Blanche Nevile is the ideal place to learn BSL.

Blanche Nevile Primary and Secondary Departments are proud to offer BSL to its pupils, their families, staff and to people connected with the school. We provide BSL classes at Level 1,2 and 3.
